Washington Capitals Continue Round-Robin Series Against Philadelphia Flyers

It will be the second game of a trio of round robin contest for the Washington Capitals (0-0-1) as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers (1-0-0) in NHL action on Thursday night.

In the rankings Philadelphia is in the second spot holding two points, while Washington is in third with a single point. Leading the field is Tampa Bay with four points, while Boston has not yet recorded a point. Washington will conclude the round robin play against the Boston Bruins on Sunday.

This is an important game for the Capitals, and thus far are hoping to change their luck against the Flyers. In four regular season meetings against Philadelphia, the last time the Capitals were able to see a victory was in November, which was a 2-1 shootout thriller.

Washington dropped each of the last three games and lost both home games to Philadelphia. The Capitals who are normally known for their offense didn’t score more than two goals in any of the four games and was outscored by a combined 16-7 in the season series.

There will be some line changes for the Capitals, who according to reports are replacing center Lars Eller with Travis Boyd. Eller is on paternity leave, joined his wife, who is about to give birth to their second child.

Boyd is set to be on the third-line spot between Carl Hagelin and Illya Kovalchuk, playing 85 games, having scored eight goals, setting up five assists in his career.

Washington and Philadelphia are two of the seven Metropolitan teams in the NHL bubble field of 24 and will head into a first round series next week with an opponent to-be-determined with this new NHL format that the league is running.
