The New York Riptide continue to make some really big moves during this National Lacrosse League offseason adding two players who will look to make an impact for the squad in the upcoming Season.
First the team was able to sign defender Jon Harnett to a two-year contract.
Per team policy, no terms were released.
A 12-year NLL veteran who was selected 26th overall in the 2008 Entry Draft, Harnett has seen action in 161 regular season games. He has 579 loose balls and 108 caused turnovers and offensively has recorded 75 points on 10 goals and 65 assists. The 6-foot-1 lefthander has also racked up 227 penalty minutes during his career.
“We are excited that Jon chose to sign with the Riptide,” Riptide general manager Jim Veltman said. “He will add needed veteran leadership and grit to our group.”
In 11 games for the Buffalo Bandits last season, Harnett had 27 loose ball pickups and seven caused turnovers. In 22 career playoff games, he has six points on two goals and four assists while scooping up 80 loose balls and causing 19 turnovers.
Shortly after that the team acquired defender Leo Stouros and a second round pick in the 2021 NLL Entry Draft from the Georgia Swarm in exchange for a first round pick in the 2021 NLL Entry Draft.
Selected 17th overall by the Swarm in the 2016 NLL Entry Draft, Stouros has seen action in 58 games over four seasons for the Swarm. A 6-foot-1 lefthander has scooped up 159 loose balls in his career and caused 25 turnovers. He also has eight points on one goal and seven assists in his career.
“Leo is a young, established, shut-down defender that our head coach is familiar with,” Riptide general manager Jim Veltman said. “He’s young enough to grow with our group and vocal enough to lead our young defense. It takes a lot to get a lot and we feel this deal is a win-win for both sides considering the depth of that draft year.”
It’ll be interesting to see what moves the team will make next as the guys will look to continue to grow as a franchise and continue to play some exciting lacrosse for the fans of New York next season.
