As an incredible 2024 Season for Gotham FC came to a wrap, there was plenty of buzz and excitment as to what things would look like when it had come time for the 2025 NWSL Season.
Lots of pondering by fans and those that followed the team as to how the roster was going to be shaped.
The names that would return to the squad for 2025 and what the vision for the squad is going to be going forward.
Things started with a bit of a shock and some hard goodbyes for those that supported the team as they had to say goodbye to fan favorites Yazmeen Ryan, Lynn Williams and Cassie Miller as they embark on new chapters of their incredible career.
Coming back to the team is going to be Mandy Freeman and Jessica Silva.
Added to the team as a part of the Class of 2025 is Jaelin Howell, Sarah Schupansky, Stella Nyamekye and recently Gabi Portilho along with Shelby Hogan to the roster.
It is going to be fascinating to see how the roster is going to blend with all of these newcomers to the franchise and what the vision for Head Coach Juan Carlos Amoros is going to be.
There was a ton of buzz with the newer additions, especially with the signing of Portilho, as there were many that felt her performance during the Olympics was something that helped to open the doors for her stateside.
Oh and also the resume for Portilho is an impressive one as in 2024 the forward was nominated as a nominee for the 2024 Ballon d’Or Féminin award as that is something to honor those that perform the best over the previous season.
What is also going to be fascinating is that there is going to be a theme of development again for the ladies as Schupansky comes to the franchise from the University of Pittsburgh.
That theme of development was a huge one for Gotham FC during the Championship run of 2023 and for the incredible run they had in 2024, and it’ll be fascinating to see how the additions evolve during the time that they have with the franchise.
There is going to be a ton to watch for in 2025 and it’ll be exciting to see what happens next for the Gotham FC Franchise.
