Sitting in a press conference room full of journalist and with Hall of Famer Rick Pitino speaking to those in attendance, there is for sure a buzz around the St. John’s Men’s Basketball team.
The guys now having a 9-2 overall record and playing to the first BIG EAST Conference victory against DePaul by a final of 89-61, the guys played and looked like a team playing to the full potential that is on the court and oh by the way they are just getting started in the 2025 season.
Going up against a wonderful three-point shooting team in DePaul the Red Storm defense stood tall and completely shut down those opportunities as the game progressed.
Fans are encouraged to see Coach Pitino along with student-athletes Simeon Wilcher and Deivon Smith by viewing the video below:

And even better they had this type of performance in front of a packed Carnesecca Arena, as the crowd was into every minute of the game.
The good thing for the Team is the fact that they played well against Virginia as well, but the biggest test for this 2024-25 edition of the Red Storm is going on the road to Providence and taking on BIG EAST foes the Providence.
Here are some of the impressive numbers from the game against DePaul as RJ Luis Jr had a game-high 19 points, Kadary Richmond finished with 18 points, Simeon Wilcher posted 16 points, and Zuby Ejiofor rounded the scoring with his 12 points.
As a team the Red Storm shot for 55.2 (37-67 FG) and was able to have 80 of the 89 points inside the 3-point arc.
Something else for Coach Pitino and the staff to be proud of is the fact that all 13 guys were able to see time in the game, which is something that is going to be clutch with the Ultra Tough BIG EAST Conference play just starting to sizzle up.
As mentioned prior in this article the true test is going to come quickly for this squad as on Saturday, December 20 the team takes on Providence. The game time for that is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. with the action to air on the FOX network.
