The folks at Gotham FC have been taking some big steps when it comes time for marketing and branding themselves as a soccer team. Ever since they transformed themselves from Sky Blue FC to the team’s current name things have been elevated.
With the team’s new ownership group, with great leadership in place and a chance to play in a World Class Facilities such as Red Bull Arena, and to also play in a great Market such as New York the team has skyrocketed.
In addition, the combination of General Manager & Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West and Head Coach Juan Carlos Amoros definitely changed the culture of the Gotham FC squad.
There has been a ton of memorable roster moves for the 2023 edition of Gotham FC, and one of the most memorable came on a Thursday night at Mercado Little Spain, as the franchise made official the deal to add 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion and Real Madrid’s all-time leading goal scorer Esther González to the roster.

González is set to show the quality of her talent and goal scoring ability in front of a completely new audience and is set to make her debut in one of Gotham FC biggest moments of the year. Gotham FC is going to have huge match happening at Red Bull Arena against the Washington Spirit and a chance to show fans who the best team in the East in the NWSL is.
It is going to be interesting to see how Coach Amoros is going to implement González in the team’s upcoming match, one thing for sure though Esther is going to help the franchise create many scoring opportunities throughout the rest of the 2023 NWSL Season.
During her time with Real Madrid González scored 39 goals, which is the most by any player in club history. In addition, Esther scored 26 goals in 42 international appearances for Spain, and that has her ranked as Number 7 on Spain’s All-time scoring list.
In a day filled with positivity and good energy and featuring a ton of Esther’s favorite food at Mercado Little Spain, the media got to learn more about the forward and how she hopes to make an impact with the club.
The first potential opportunity to see Esther in action is going to be in fact this Saturday, and amazingly enough during Hispanic Heritage Month as the ladies take on the Washington Spirit in NWSL action at Red Bull Arena. All the action is set to take place at 7:30 p.m.
