Katie Stengel to stay with Gotham FC

When it comes time for looking for talent the folks at Gotham FC always seems to have an eye for finding great talent.

Around the time of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, they looked to Liverpool FC and were able to spot Katie Stengel as a part of the roster.

Stengel having some great experiences thus far having played with such teams like Bayern Munich, the Washington Spirit, Western Sydney Wanderers to just name a few was something that intrigued the front office staff at Gotham FC.

Since her time with the franchise Katie has been a huge part of the team’s offensive production and shown that exact same veteran presence and leadership, thanks to her fine play Stengel is acquired on a permanent transfer on loan from Liverpool FC.

“When I came to Gotham FC, I wanted to give everything I had to this temporary opportunity,” said Stengel. “I feel incredibly fortunate to continue at a club that is building the foundation of something special through professionalism and an exciting style of play.”

The impact that Katie made on the field was instantaneous, as on the very first match on July 9, she scored the game winning goal. It was in the 56th minute against the Portland Thorns. Thus far Stengel recorded three goals while also appearing in eight games.

“Katie is a dynamic attacking player for us, who can create scoring chances for herself and her teammates due to her quality and work ethic,” said Gotham FC Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós. “She has impressed us from day one and has adapted really well to our style of play. We are excited that she will remain with the club and help Gotham FC to keep growing.”

Stengel also played a huge part in the run that Gotham FC had in the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup Tournament, as she scored the game-winning goal against the North Carolina Courage on August 5. In addition, another memorable moment for Stengel came on August 19 when she scored a regular season goal against San Diego on August 19.

“Katie Stengel has provided another key element to our attack, and we are pleased that she will continue to be a strong contributor to our talented roster of players,” said General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West.

Thus far in Stengel’s NWSL career, she has appeared in 104 games, with 60 starts, playing in 5,562 minutes while scoring 15 goals and five assists.

Up next for Gotham FC the ladies have a huge playoff implication match at Red Bull Rena happening on Saturday, September 16 against their East Coast Rivals the Washington Spirit.
