New York Liberty wind up Road Trip with 111-76 victory against Minnesota

Being on the road is one of the toughest test for any WNBA team, and the New York Liberty (27-7) wrapped up their five-game trip with a resounding 111-76 victory against the Minnesota Lynx (17-18_ in WNBA action on Saturday.

 For the New York Liberty, the ladies were able to score their sixth 100-point game, as the team’s 35-point margin of victory tonight marked their largest-ever over Minnesota in their head-to-head regular season series, and it tied for the fourth-largest win in franchise history.

It was a monster performance for Breanna Stewart with her 38 points 11 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, in being able to finish with her 16th double-double of the season.

“She was on another level, I expect she wasn’t pleased with the last two games against us what her stats looked like she was pretty determined today,” said Minnesota Lynx Head Coach Cheryl Reeve.

Sabrina Ionescu picked up the pace in the second half of the game, scoring three pointers which moved her up on the WNBA list with 114 three pointers made in a single season. Ionescu ended the game with 18 points shooting from the field 100% (4-4) and 100% (2-2) from three. Ionescu is just eight threes away from reaching and surpassing Diana Taurasi’s all-time single-season three-point record of 121 from 2006. 

“We were able to take care of the ball, we valued our possessions. We know we can put great numbers up,” said Ionescu.

With her free throw at the 6:15 mark of the fourth, Courtney Vandersloot reached 4,000 points for her career. In addition, Vandersloot also has 2,500 assists and 1,000 rebounds. joining Sue Bird as one of the greatest players in WNBA history. Sloot overall stat line included 15 points, nine assists, and two rebounds. Shooting from the 66.7% (6-9). 

Marine Johannès one of the best players to come off the bench, was out for Saturday night’s game due to someone standing on her foot during the game against the Connecticut Sun. Coach Brondello stated in the post-game press conference said she will be back for Monday night’s game when Liberty takes on the Aces for the finale game of the four-game series matchup. 

It is going to be an interesting test for the Liberty, as the Aces are going to want to get back to their winning ways after the West Coast Club faced a tough loss to the Washington Mystics recently. It will be the Battle of The WNBA Super Teams as the New York Liberty host the Las Vegas Aces on Monday, August 28, at the Barclays Center with the start time scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
