Rematch for the ages as New York City FC and Philadelphia Union meet for the first time in 2023

There is a ton of history surrounding New York City FC and Philadelphia as during the 2021 and 2022 season these two clubs met in the Eastern Conference Finals.

During the magical 2021 Campaign it was the Boys in Blue coming out on top by a final of 2-1 and eventually winning the MLS Championship, while the 2022 Campaign turned out a tad differently as the Union, who had felt they were a better squad backed up their claim with a 3-1 victory.

There has been a lot that has changed for New York City FC, as this year’s version is one of the younger squads in Major League Soccer this season with an approximate age of 23.9. There has been a rollercoaster of a ride for the guys, as they have played well at home which is a great sign as they return to Citi Field on Saturday.

Fans are also encouraged to check out the following video as Defender Thiago Martins shares these thoughts:

The Union meanwhile are looking great, as they have won 13 of the last 15 points in league play over their last five matches.

One of the things that NYCFC can point to is the fact that they have been able to battle in all the matches that they have been in. In the matches against the New England Revolution the team showed great heart and in the last road match against Orlando City; the guys got a clutch goal from Gabe Segal in the 89th minute.

It was after that match that the fans of the team got to see a unifying moment, where the guys stood at center field for a team huddle. It was in that moment that Martins said some words to his teammates.

After that he and the rest of the squad had some time to reflect and train for this moment and rematch as this is the first time in the 2023 season where these two great Major League Soccer Clubs have a chance to see who the better of the two teams are.

Fans can see for themselves how all the action is going to play out by heading to Citi Field and purchasing tickets for the 7:30 p.m. match or catching the action on the Apple TV -MLS Season Pass.
