Washington Mystics regain winning ways in 71-69 victory over Chicago

It is the style of play that those who are fans of the Washington Mystics (2-2) hope to see more frequently as beautiful passing, hard cuts to the rim and overall clutch shooting were all featured as the team regained their winning ways in a 71-69 victory over the Chicago Sky (2-1) on Friday.

Seeing great poise and chemistry throughout the night the Washington Mystics found the style that made them so impressive when they got their first win against the New York Liberty in the teams Home Opener on May 19.

Gaining the team’s Hard Hat Player of the game award on this night is Elena Delle Donne as she impressed many with both her offensive and defensive style.

The performance for those in the Chicago area is one that might have seemed familiar as Delle Donne spent some time with the Sky prior to heading to the Washington D.C. area.

Fans of the Washington Mystics are encouraged to check out the video below as Head Coach Eric Thibault along with Shakira Austin and Delle Donne shares these thoughts after the team’s victory over the Sky…video is compliments of the Washington Mystics:

In the first game in Chicago since 2019, Delle Donne had an impressive homecoming, as she finished the night with 25 points. In those points included a huge three-pointer with 22.4 seconds remaining to lift her squad to the victory.

There was not only the shooting, but there was also an impressive court vision as several sweet passes were seen throughout the game, including one to Austin, as she finished the play with a strong move to the basket.

Austin busted out her best video game moves throughout the night as the forward/center finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

In the welcome to the WNBA moment of the game went to Li Meng at the 6:11 mark on the Second Quarter hit a deep three for her first bucket in the WNBA, and it is going to be fascinating to see how Coach E utilizes her and the rest of the roster as the season progresses.

There was definitely a theme of team play for the Mystics as just about everyone on the roster saw time on the floor against the Sky.

The shot of the night for the Mystics came from Kristi Toliver as she created a four-point play. It is one heck of a shot by Toliver as she was deep in the corner, close to her Mystics teammates and during the timing of her shot got fouled by one of the members of the Sky.

There were some impressive stats as the Mystics were able to make 16 of 20 from the free-throw line while Chicago made 9 of 13. Not only that but the Mystics had an impressive 41.2% three-point shooting performance and stole the ball 10 times in the game.

Up next for the Washington Mystics they get a chance to host the new look Dallas Wings in the Entertainment and Sports Arena with the tip of the game set for 7:00 p.m.
