In what was an action-packed soccer match New York City FC II (4-3-1) defeated Toronto FC II (2-6-1) in MLS NEXT Pro action in Queens, NY.
Toronto FC II displayed a very aggressive pressing style and overall defensive play; the team saw their first offensive opportunity when Theo Rigopoulos tallied a great shot early on in the match. Then around the 21′ Jordan Faria had himself an opportunity that was saved by NYCFC II Keeper Alexander Yagudayev.
It was in the 36 Minute that Toronto FC was rewarded for their offensive pressure when Alec Diaz came storming down the field and blasted a right-footed shot for the first goal of the night.

New York City FC II responded quickly though, as the team has been known thus far in the 2023 season to come back in style. They were able to start their latest comeback thanks to a Francesco Di Ponzio goal in the 41′ thanks to an assist by Rio Hope-Gund.

Then the Boys in Blue got themselves the momentum as later on Matt Myers and Jonathan Jiménez both had wonderful opportunities that were saved.
After a ton of offensive pressure by NYCFC II it was in the 58′ when Jack Beer had a laser for a right footed shot go in for the second goal of the night that was assisted by Stevo Bednarsky.
Klevis Haxhari almost increased the lead around the 60′ mark on a nice header, but that attempt was saved by Toronto FC II Keeper Luka Gavran. There was a penalty opportunity for Toronto FC II as Julian Altobelli tried to hit the bottom left corner, but that was denied by Yagudayev.
After great back-and-fort action it wasn’t till around the 83′ that Jiménez tallied the third goal of the night. From there the NYCFC II defense stood tall and the team wrapped up their 3-1 victory on a strong note.
New York City FC II gets to return back to Belson Stadium on Sunday, May 28 as they take on FC Cincinnati II.
