Adding a new piece to the midfield the Washington Spirit was able to add Inès Jaurena to the team on a one-year contract. Jaurena, 31, will be a part of the NWSL after playing in France for the last ten years.
Jaurena will now get to play alongside the likes of Andi Sullivan, Ashley Sanchez, Tori Huster, Jordan Baggett, Dorian Bailey and Bayley Feist. French fans will be familiar with the midfielder thanks to her play with Olympique Lyonnais Féminin of Division 1 Féminin, the highest division of professional soccer in France.
Prior to her time with Lyon, Jaurena career in France was able to span seeing playing time with Grand Paris Seine Ouest 92 Issy, Paris FC, and FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Across her 174 appearances since 2013, Jaurena has been able to tally ten goals.
“I am so excited to join the Washington Spirit,” said Jaurena. “I have followed the club since my former Florida State teammate Tori Huster joined the team. It makes sense for me to come back to America and join such an impressive professional league. I was delighted when the Spirit reached out to me, and I cannot wait to see the magic of Audi Field.”
Jaurena has a ton of experience, as she has been able to play for the U17, U19, U20, and U23 teams before her debut with the senior team in 2017. The midfielder has been able to play in 56 international appearances in that time.
“This is an important signing for us, and I am very excited to welcome Inès to DC,” said Head Coach Mark Parsons. “Inès is a versatile player and is going to add plenty of quality and be a great addition to our team culture.”
