Mets win another series against Phillies to complete homestand after Mike Piazza formally introduces collaboration with True Vodka.

Summer days are slowly coming to and end but that doesn’t seem to mean anything to the Mets. A scorching hot 17-5 out of the all star break, the boys of summer look poised for a deep post-season run. Weekend series at Citi Field when the team is rocking is one of the most electric atmospheres in sports. Friday night’s opening game against the Phillies was no exception.

Despite a 2-1 loss in 10 innings, “Mad” Max Scherzer shined yet again. With injuries to Jeff McNeil and Eduardo Escobar, the Mets fought hard but came up just short. If you’ve been watching the Mets all year, you’d might suspect that the Amazin’s would come out swinging on Saturday and Sunday, pun intended.

With Jacob deGrom on the bump, the Mets have as good a chance to win as any team has had at point in the history of baseball. Although the bats didn’t come alive, Pete Alonso drove in the only run of the game to add to his MLB-leading RBI total. All eyes were on deGrom as he threw another gem. 10 strikeouts, 2 hits allowed and 0 earned runs in 6 innings of work. To cap off the weekend, Chris Bassitt took to the mound and dealt. 4 hits and 2 walks allowed alongside 5 strikeouts and 0 earned runs in 5 innings. With a final score of 6-0, the bats came alive and handed the Phillies a second straight shutout.

In a game that was full of highlights, one of the off the field highlights was Friday night’s partnership event. Mets legend and Hall of Gamer Mike Piazza was in attendance to formally introduce his collaboration with True Vodka. Citi Field has the Piazza 31 Club fittingly located behind homeplate and True Vodka is the premiere sponsor.

The two parties came together a few years ago to develop an award-winning vodka that’s distilled in Italy. This isn’t a partnership that just has a celebrity name attached to it. This is something that Mike genuinely loves and cares about. He spoke elegantly about the vodka.

“It’s an honor without a doubt. At first they approached me and I was skeptical or at least a little bit curious as everyone was. Then I tasted it, did some research on the history of the spirits. Obviously there’s tradition in the north of Italy of fine distilled spirits.”

He continued to add “You know, everyone knows about Italian cars, Italian suits, Italian wine and food and everything. We feel like they put the same passion and emotion into the quality of the vodka. I encourage everyone to taste it too.” After tasting it myself, I understood exactly what he was talking about. He was gracious to talk to, stayed for pictures with fans and really embodied what True Vodka, The Piazza 31 Club, Citi Field and the Mets are all about.
