The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will put its four-game win streak on the line this Wednesday when the Pride battles Stony Brook in the annual Long Island Rivalry game.
Tip-off from Island Federal Arena in Stony Brook, New York is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The game will air on SNY and ESPN3 as well as have an audio only broadcast on WRHU (88.7 FM) and WRHU.org.
Hofstra won its fourth straight game on Saturday with a strong second half to pull away from Bucknell for an 88-69 victory over the Bison. For the second straight game, junior Aaron Estrada tallied a career-high with 24 points in the contest and added six assists and four rebounds. Graduate student Zach Cooks had another stellar outing with 19 points and six assists in the contest, while senior Omar Silverio chipped in with 16 points and four three-pointers.
Remarkably, Hofstra has five players averaging at least 12 points per game this season with Cooks (18.1), Estrada (14.1), graduate student Jalen Ray (13.7), Silverio (12.3), and sophomore Darlinstone Dubar (12.0) accounting for this group. Redshirt senior Abayomi Iyiola is tops on the team with 6.8 rebounds per game and Dubar ranks second with 6.0 caroms per contest. Estrada (4.7) and Cooks (4.2) are the team leaders in assists per outing.
Stony Brook is coming off a 78-49 loss to Wagner on Saturday to fall to 3-4 this season. A pair of players average in double figures this season for the Seawolves with Anthony Roberts ranking first with 15.0 points per game and Jahlil Jenkins second with 12.2 points per game. Tykei Greene is averaging a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game and Roberts is first with 2.6 assists per outing.
This will mark the 30th all-time meeting in the series between Hofstra and Stony Brook with the Pride holding a commanding 24-5 lead in the series. Hofstra has won five straight in the series, including a 72-67 win in Hempstead last season.
