Washington Capitals on a roll as they get set to host Pittsburgh on Thursday

The Washington Capitals have been on a bit of a roll, as the team is currently getting ready to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday at Capital One Arena.

The team has won the last three against the New York Islanders, skating to a 1-0 shootout result last Thursday, a 6-3 victory on Saturday and most recently a 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

Washington was able to score on the first shot of the game, as Daniel Sprong was the lone goal scorer for the night. That combined with some stellar defense on the Capitals end and some outstanding play by goaltender Vitek Vanecek helped the team.

For Sprong his goal was the 10th of the season, to go along with his fifth in seven games against the Islanders.

One of the surprises of the night was the fact that the Capitals were not able to draw a power play opportunity, as the team had two. The Isles had three, which means that both teams played solidly.

The best news of the night was the fact that the Capitals were able to play with fans back at Capital One Arena for the first time in nearly 14 months. Currently the Arena is at 10 percent capacity, but the team felt the energy of the crowd and were able to feed off of it.

Up next for the Capitals will be a home game against the always tough Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. The action between these two teams is set for 7:00 p.m. with fans wanting to watch the action can do so on the ESPN Plus network.
