Preview: Washington Capitals set to take on New York Islanders

The Washington Capitals is getting ready to take on the New York Islanders out on Long Island in NHL action on Thursday. This will be the sixth time this season these two teams are meeting this season.

Leading the way for the Caps offense against the Isles has been John Carlson, who has seven points, while Nicklas Backstrom has five assists. In the prior games the Caps have been able to outscore the Isles by a tally of 16-15. Washington has played well on their power play converting on 6 of their 12 opportunities.

Washington enters the game against New York with the top power play unit in the NHL with a 27.6 mark. With the team holding a 15-7-2 mark when they play on the road this season.

Thus far the Caps have been skating well thanks to the combination of Anthony Mantha, Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie, as they have recorded three goals together.

There will be some milestones within reach for Washington as Captain Alex Ovechkin is two goals shy of passing Marcel Dionne (731) for the fifth-most goals in NHL history. Zdeno Chara is two games shy of playing in 1,600 career games, and Anthony Mara is one goal shy of 100 career goals in addition to being one point shy of 200 career points.
