Sabres, Penguins to co-host Pride Game on April 17 at KeyBank Center

It was announced by the Buffalo Sabres that they will celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first-ever joint Pride Game on Saturday, April 17 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo.

The Sabres and Penguins hope to celebrate the LGBTQ+ Communities as they will be highlighting stories of hope, inclusion and allyship.

Some of the things to watch for in the game will be the tape on the players sticks, which will feature rainbow tape, in addition the teams will be wearing commemorative pride warmup jerseys that features the Progress Pride Flag. There will also be official Pride Game warmup pucks with a colorful design.

There will be a seven-day online auction featuring the pride tape sticks, the warmup jerseys and pucks to go along with the various signed items that fans can place a bid for. For anyone interested in participating in the auction can do so on April 17 and the auction runs through April 24.

For the Sabres they will have the proceeds of the auction to go to the Pride Center of Western New York (Pride Center WNY) and Gay and Lesbian Youth Services of Western New York (GLYS). Pride Center WNY is a health promotion organization specializing in LGBTQ+ health and HIV prevention. Established in 2001, Pride Center WNY’s goal is to promote the lifelong health and well-being of LGBTQ+ people. 

In addition, there will be 100 tickets donated for the game to the LGBTQ+ organizations and each fan in attendance will be receiving a Pride Game rally Towel on their seat.
