Buffalo Sabres set to take on Rangers in Thursday night Hockey Action

The Buffalo Sabres are on a bit of a high as they were able to snap an 18-game winless streak, with their 6-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.

It will be a tough test for the team though as they hope to get a win streak going against the ultra-tough New York Rangers on Thursday night.

One of the keys for the Sabres winning against the Flyers, was the two-point performance by Steven Fogarty, who tallied his first goal of his NHL career. Brandon Montour also had two goals, which were of the shorthand variety. Buffalo also saw goals by Sam Reinhart, Curtis Lazar and Casey Mittelstadt.

In the cage Linus Ullmark was able to make 31 saves in the victory for Buffalo. Looking to make his return to the Sabres will be Rasmus Asplund, who is returning to the team after an upper-body injury.

With the rivalry between the Rangers and Sabres this will be the fifth of eight meetings between these two teams this season. In the last meeting the Rangers were able to earn a 5-3 victory at Madison Square Garden. The Sabres hold a 3-6-1 record in the last 10 games against the Blueshirts, while having a 3-4-3 mark at Key Bank Center.

The rivalry between the Sabres and Rangers has always been a competitive one, as the teams have played 190 games between each other, with the Sabres holding the edge with a record of 84-69-36 series record.

Some of the Sabres to watch for is Reinhart who has five points in the last five games against the Blueshirts, Victor Olofsson who has four assists in four meetings and Riley Sheahan who has an 18-for-27 mark in the face-off circle.

The game between the Sabers and Rangers is set for 7:00 p.m. With anyone wanting to catch the action can do so by checking out the MSG Network.
