The Washington Capitals will start off the month of April with a tough road test against the New York Islanders on Thursday. In their last game, the Capitals fell to the Rangers by a final of 5-2 as the team is hoping to regain their winning ways.
The rivalry between the Capitals and Islanders have been just as intense as any others. Especially this season, as the Capitals are holding off the Islanders as well as some of the other NHL teams to keep their spot in the Eastern Division Standings.
Some of the players to watch for on the Capitals is John Carlson, Nicklas Backstrom and Justin Schultz who have five points against the Islanders.
The Capitals have been able to outscore the Islanders in the team’s three prior meetings by a tally of 12-6, as the team has been able to do well with their power play opportunities converting on 5 of 9 chances.
Playing well overall for the team has been T.J. Oshie, who has a three-point three with his two goals and three assists, while Nicklas Backstrom is on a three-game point streak as well having one goal and two assists.
There will be some milestones to watch for on the Capitals as Carlson is two goals shy of passing Mike Green and Calle Johansson for the third-most by a defender in franchise history. The Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin is two power play goals shy of passing Brett Hull (265) for the second most power play goals in NHL history.
The game between the Capitals and Islanders is set for 7:00 p.m. tonight with the action airing on the ESPN Plus network.
