The Washington Capitals are getting ready to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in National Hockey League action on Tuesday night. For the Capitals, the team is looking to snap a four-game losing streak.
Washington has been trying to figure out how to keep the energy that they brought to the early frames of the game throughout their whole play.
It has been a long time since the Capitals have lost four straight games in regulation, as the last time the team has seen this long of a streak was two years ago. It was during the January 2019 season, when the Capitals were in the middle of a seven-game slump, and during the frame the team also lost four straight in regulation.
The team has been competitive as of late and playing some great high energy and fast paced style of hockey. The Capitals currently rank ninth in the league in time spent leading on the scoreboard.
Helping to lead the team as of late has been Nicklas Backstrom who has 18 points, which is tied for fifth-most points in the NHL through games played. Backstrom was able to record a goal against the Penguins on Sunday, which marked his 250th career goal. With that milestone moment Backstrom became the fourth player in franchise history to achieve that mark.
Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin has 711 goals, which is seven shy of the mark set by Phil Esposito (717) for sixth-most in NHL history. Ovechkin has been able to tally 146 career multi-goal games, which is 62 more multi-goal games then the next-closet player.
