Bridgeport Sound Tigers Take on Bruins to start AHL Season

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers will head to Marlborough, Massachusetts for the start of the 2020-21 American Hockey League season against the Providence Bruins.

The two teams will play at the New England Sports Center, with the action set for 1:00 p.m.

This will be the first game for both of these teams since March 11, 2020, which is an estimated 331 days ago.

Bridgeport will have a chance to take on the Bruins 12 times during this season, with six of those games being on the road. The Sound Tigers hold a 4-5-0 record against the Bruins during the 2019-20 campaign.

Providence will look to reclaim the form that they had during the 2019-20 season, as the team was on a 12-game winning streak prior to things coming to a halt. The last team that defeated them in regulation just so happens to be the Sound Tigers, in a game that was played on Feb 8, 2020.

Bridgeport will have a roster of 18 players, featuring highly-touted winger Simon Holmstrom and defender Parker Wotherspoon.  The team has six players who have NHL experience and 17 players who are currently on an HL contract with the New York Islanders, including A.J. Greer.

The Sound Tigers roster features 15 AHL rookies and nine players who are looking to make their pro debut, fans who are watching the action can hope to see Kyle MacLean, Brett Neumann, Felix Bibeau, Blade Jenkins, Cole Coskey and Nick Pastjuov, defenseman Sam Bolduc and Adam Brubacher, and goaltender Francis Marotte make a positive impact with the team.

There is a potential for a bit of Sound Tigers history to be made as Tanner Fritz is looking for one assist to tie him with Matt Donovan (2010-14) and one point to match him with Justin Mapletoft (2001-05). Greer is expected to play in his 200th AHL game against the Bruins. Also hoping to make history is Cole Bardreau, who is expected to play in his 275th professional hockey game.
