Preview: Buffalo Sabres vs New York Islanders

The Buffalo Sabres were on the ice and getting ready to go on the road to take on the New York Islanders. For these two teams this will be the first of eight meetings this season. The last time these two rivals faced-off the Islanders defeated the Sabres 3-2 in overtime on Long Island.

Buffalo holds a 2-6-2 mark in their last 10 games against the Islanders, while also having a 3-5-2 mark on the road. This will be the 174th game all-time between these two teams. Buffalo holds a 82-66-25 series record.

Thus far the Sabres penalty kill is 15-for-16 in the team’s last nine games against the Islanders. Victor Olofsson enters into the game against the Islanders on a six-game point streak, which ties him for the longest of his career.

Buffalo and their special teams play are a plus-8 this season. Entering play on Monday, the Sabres were able to tie the Boston Bruins for the second-best differential in the league, trailing only the Colorado Avalanche.

Some of the Sabres players that have played well against the Islanders is Taylor Hall who has recorded 18 points in 18 career games. Jack Eichel has been able to record 10 points in his eight meetings, and Colin Miller has been able to record four points in four meetings.

Buffalo has been strong on their power play chances, as the team is now ranked seventh in the league. The Sabres have been able to score 12 of its 39 power play opportunities this season. Leading the team has been  Olofsson who is tied for sixth in the league with his three power-play goals.

Expecting to travel to Long Island to play for the Sabres will be Sam Reinhart. As of late Reinhart has not been able to participate in the team’s practices thanks to an upper-body injury. Thus far Sam has been able to record six points in eight games this season.

The Sabres are about to embark on a four-game, seven-day road trip that starts in Long Island and continues in Boston.

The game on Tuesday between the Sabres and the Islanders is scheduled for 6:00 pm, with the game scheduled to air on the NBC Sports Network.
