It took a while for the Washington Capitals to warm up, but when they did, they were able to win in a big way over the New York Islanders by a final of 6-3 in NHL action on Thursday.
The Capitals were able to shrug off a slow start during the Second Period with an offensive flurry on the New York Islanders net in a span of 9:07 that were able to help them take control of the game.
Tom Wilson was able to cap off the game for Washington with an empty netter to help seal the victory for the team. The Capitals were able to establish an eight straight game winning streak to start the season, which matches when the team had a 7-0-0 mark during the 2011-12 season.
Both teams played well, but it was the Capitals that were able to find the momentum and the victory.
New York had the early momentum thanks to first period goals by Oliver Wahlstrom, Casey Cizikas and Anders Lee that were able to give them the 3-0 lead.
The Capitals then turned on the offensive momentum thanks to back-to-back goals by Conor Sheary, which were followed by tallies by Garnet Hathaway, John Carlson and Zdeno Chara which made the score 5-3 at the time.
Wilson sealed the victory with his empty netter at the 19:41 mark in the Third Period, and the Capitals were able to skate away with a great result.
The Capitals will enjoy a day off before hosting the Boston Bruins on Saturday. The game between Washington and Boston is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
