It was a thrilling game between two great National Hockey League teams, in the end it was the Buffalo Sabres that fell just short in overtime to the New York Rangers by a score of 3-2.
One of the big reasons why the Sabres were able to extend their point streak to four games is thanks to goaltender Linus Ullmark, who made a season-high 36 saves.
The game started in favor of the Rangers thanks to a goal from Ryan Strome, but the Sabres were able to respond thanks to a tally by Jack Eichel at the 19:38 mark of the First Period.
Artemi Panarin was able to find the back of the net for New York at the 16:10 mark of the Second Period. Buffalo was not able to find a response until the Third Period Sam Reinhart with a tally at the 4:47 mark.
Both teams went into the Over Time frame and it was a goal by Alexis Lafreniere was able to record the game-winner at the 2:47 mark.
There were some positives for the Sabres, as Reinhart was able to record his second-multi point game of the season. Buffalo has a 42-7-9 record when Reinhart records at least two points.
Eichel was able to record his 139th career goal, which passes Jochen Hecht for sole possession of the 19th spot on the Sabres’ all-time goal-scoring list. Eichel now also sits tied for 11th in the league with nine points in eight games.
The Sabres will enjoy a day off before playing host to the New Jersey Devils for a game on Saturday that is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
