Front line workers have been tirelessly working to keep everyone safe throughout the pandemic. In recognition of their efforts, Garnet and Lindsay Hathaway wanted to honor their service by recently providing a Thanksgiving holiday spread.
Through fan and community support of Hath’s Heroes, the Hathaways’ program was able to join forces once again with SuperFd Performance Nutrition to provide more than 940 Thanksgiving meals for fire stations and first responders across four different counties in the DMV.
Arlington County Fire, the City of Alexandria Fire, Prince George’s County Fire and Fairfax County Fire were among the fire departments that received meals.
The food delivered consisted of a three-course gourmet meal that included the same recipes that SuperFd provides for Capitals players and staff throughout the season.
“The First Responders of our communities often sacrifice time with their own families, especially on holidays, in order to look out for their neighbors,” Garnet Hathaway said. “Many of us joined together to provide these men and women with a special Thanksgiving meal. We provided the meals in the hope they could be a small gesture of how grateful we, their neighbors, are for their selfless dedication to helping others.”
Hathaway launched Hath’s Heroes in 2019 to give back to first responders. As part of Hath’s Heroes, Hathaway provides tickets to select Capitals games to local first responders. Postgame, Hathaway meets the ticket recipients and gives them a tour of the Capitals locker room. In addition to donating tickets, Hathaway visits local fire stations throughout the season and provides additional programming for first responders.
Hathaway’s great-grandfather, Garnet Mcelroy, was a firefighter in Winnipeg, and his experiences inspired Hathaway to launch Hath’s Heroes.
