Capitals Take tough Game 2 Loss to Islanders 5-2

This Eastern Conference First Round play for the Washington Capitals has not been an easy one, as the New York Islanders are extended this best of seven series with a 5-2 decision on Friday night. Washington was able to get goals from sniper Alexander Ovechkin, but could not keep the potent Isles offense off the boards for the second game.

Ovechkin was able to record his first goal of the postseason 56 seconds of the first period of play, but the response to that were three goals by the Islanders, which all came in a span of 3:58.

New York saw scoring from Nick Leddy, Anthony Beauvillier and Matt Martin that once again gave them the momentum they needed to earn a victory. One of the things the Caps will be kicking themselves for is the fact that they  had three shots on goal in the first 43 seconds of the third period but failed to score.

The beautiful thing about hockey and a best-of-seven series is that it isn’t over until it is over, so if you are a fan of the Capitals one can hope that the team can put together a smart game plan to rebound and gain the momentum they need to make the climb back into the series.

Washington and New York will have a day off today before resuming play on Sunday in a game scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
