There was a whole lot of baseball played at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday as the Baltimore Orioles (11-8) finished off a suspended game and then began a new series against the Washington Nationals (7-10) on Friday night.
First the completion of the suspended game saw the Orioles earn a 6-2 victory over the Nats, as the final three innings of the game that was played on August 9th were finalized. The Birds Bullpen continue to have a solid 2020 season by completing the final 12 outs keeping the Washington bats off balance and helping to lift the team to the victory.
The Nationals bats were not going to be off balance for long though as thy were able to break out in a big way in the second game by a final score of 15-3. Washington was without starters Stephen Strasburg and Starlin Castro, found a way to beat the odds in earning the second game victory over the Orioles
Both Baltimore and Washington saw the debut of who they feel will be the future of their organization as the Nationals saw rookie second baseman Luis García, the club’s No. 2 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, made his Major League debut.
Baltimore meanwhile saw pitcher Keegan Akin make his MLB Debut, as the team’s No. 13 prospect tossed three-plus innings of long relief in the game. This is projected to be the start of prospects who are going to be making an impact for the Orioles in this 2020 Season, as No. 5 prospect Ryan Mountcastle, and Dean Kremer (No. 10) are projected to follow and contribute to the Club’s climb in the American League rankings.
As for the Nationals they were able to see six different players driving in multiple runs in the victory over the Orioles. It’ll be interesting to see how Baltimore will respond to the loss and recover after playing two games yesterday.
The Orioles will have starter Asher Wojciechowski (0-2, 3.95 ERA) on the mound to take on Nationals Patrick Corbin (2-0, 2.50 ERA). Baltimore has done fairly well against Corbin, as Pedro Severino holds a .400 average and Anthony Santander has a .333 average.
