Washington Capitals Fall to New York Islanders 4-2

Mistakes are something that will always come back to haunt you in the end of hockey games, and the Washington Capitals made too many mistakes in the 4-2 loss to the New York Islanders in NHL action on Wednesday night.

The Caps had worked so hard during the course of the game, and even had positive momentum early on building a 2-0 lead. Everything all fell apart in the winding minutes of the game though as the Islanders just kept hustling until the last whistle and were rewarded for their effort.

One of the things that Washington will look to improve upon in this series with the Islanders is cashing in on power play opportunities. While T.J. Oshie was able to help them on cashing in on two extra man goals during the course of the game, there were so many other opportunities the guys could have cashed in on but didn’t. That is huge when it comes time for gaining that positive momentum needed on the ice and eventually getting the victory.

Washington got some really bad news during the loss as well as center  Nicklas Backstrom was injured in the game against the Isles. Backstrom is a huge part to any success the Capitals have had and hopefully will be able to return to make a positive impact in this series with the Islanders.

The Capitals as well as the rest of the league are still getting their hockey legs from underneath them, so to be able to do that and play meaningful hockey is an amazing thing to watch. The Caps and Isles continue the quest to see who will play for Lord Stanley’s Cup in a game to be played on Friday with the face-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
