New York Liberty Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced on Wednesday that the team has waived center Kara Braxton and signed free agent center Shanece McKinney.
The Liberty signed McKinney, an undrafted free agent, at the start of training camp and she appeared in all three preseason games for New York, averaging 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per contest. A 6-4 center from Louisiana State University, she averaged 7.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game as a senior.
Braxton was acquired in a trade during the 2011 season. She played in 85 games for the Liberty, averaging 6.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Braxton made two playoff appearances with New York in 2011 and 2012. Drafted seventh overall in 2005 by the Detroit Shock, she was a member of two WNBA Championship teams in 2006 and 2008.
New York will play back-to-back road games against the Washington Mystics on Friday, May 30 and Indiana Fever on Saturday, May 31. Both games are slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
