Islanders v Avalanche 2/8/14

Here are some notes as the New York Islanders (22-29-8) are getting ready to host the Colorado Avalanche (36-16-5) in NHL action at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

2/6/14: NYI 2 vs. CGY 4
The New York Islanders lost to the Calgary Flames for the first time since Jan. 8, 2009, falling 4-2 Thursday at Nassau Coliseum. Calgary native Thomas Hickey and rookie defenseman Calvin de Haan scored for the Islanders, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the score, but could not overcome David Jones’ go-ahead goal with 5:32 remaining in the third period.

The Islanders play their last game before the Olympic break tonight against the Colorado Avalanche. It’s the second and final meeting this season between the clubs; the Isles rallied to defeat Colorado 2-1 in Denver on a Michael Grabner overtime goal on Jan. 10. The Isles are 8-0-1-2 (W-L-T-OT) in their last 11 games against the Avs and have won six straight home games against Colorado.
