It will be one of the most anticipated BIG EAST rematches of the 2013-14 season, and it will go down as one of the more exciting College Basketball games that will be played at Madison Square Garden-as the St. John’s University Men’s Basketball team (14-9, 4-6 BIG EAST) get ready to take on No 12/12 Creighton (18-3) on Sunday.
Twelve days ago the Bluejays were able to earn a thrilling 63-60 victory over the Red Storm. St. John’s did not go down without a fight though, ripping off a 28-10 run before the shot heard round the world from Doug McDermott propelled Creighton to the victory.
The scene for this game shifts to Madison Square Garden, as the Bluejays will now take on a Red Storm team that has won five of their last six games. St. John’s comes into the contest tied for seventh place in the BIG EAST, and are looking like a team that is hungry and ready for a long run to end the Second Half.
D’Angelo Harrison, JaKarr Sampson and Rysheed Jordan combined to score 61 points, while the team as a whole shot a scorching 61.1 percent (22-of-36) as a part of a 53-point first half effort before withstanding a furious second half rally in the 86-76 victory over Providence on Tuesday.
Creighton, meanwhile, looks to show the world why they are the team to watch for in the BIG EAST Tournament, with a statement victory at Madison Square Garden. The Bluejays will have a game tonight (Friday) against DePaul before heading out to the big Apple.
The Bluejays are tied for first place in their first BIG EAST campaign, with an 8-1 league mark. Creighton has won 13 of its last 14 games since December 2. Doug McDermott maybe a milestone player heading into the St. John’s game as the Senior forward is six rebounds shy of becoming the fourth player in Creighton history with 1,000 rebounds.
