11/26/13: NYI 2 vs. WPG 3
The Islanders could not overcome a 3-0 deficit, falling 3-2 to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night at Nassau Coliseum. John Tavares and Andrew MacDonald scored for the Islanders, but only after the Jets scored three second period goals in a 5:15 span.
The Islanders continue a four-game homestand tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. It’s the second of three meetings this season between the clubs and Detroit’s second Coliseum visit in 14 days. The Isles are 6-0-1 in their last seven games against Detroit and have not been beaten in regulation by the Red Wings since Black Friday, 2003.
Calvin de Haan Recalled: The Islanders recalled defenseman Calvin de Haan from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) on Thanksgiving. A first round pick (12th overall) in 2009, de Haan owns a plus-1 rating in one career NHL game with the Islanders on Dec. 15, 2011. He has three points (1g/2a) in 17 AHL games this season with the Sound Tigers.
Hot Hands: Thomas Vanek is on a three-game point streak (2g/2a). John Tavares is on a three-game point streak (2g/2a) and has points in eight of his last nine games. Casey Cizikas saw his career-high, five-game point streak (3g/2a) come to a close Wednesday.
Back-To-Backs: The Islanders open their seventh of sixteen sets of back-to-back games tonight. They are 3-3-0 on the front-end and 1-4-1 on the back end of back-to-backs this season.
Eight Straight: Goaltender Kevin Poulin has appeared in eight consecutive Islanders games. His previous high for consecutive appearances was three games (twice), most recently set Feb. 18-21, 2012.
