Islanders v Oilers Notes 10/17/13

Here are some notes for our New York Islanders (2-2-2) fans who are getting ready to watch the team play host to the Edmonton Oilers (1-5-1) in NHL Action at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Thursday night.

RECENT GAMES 

10/15/13: NYI 3 vs. BUF 4 (SO)
The New York Islanders had a late 3-2 lead, but were unable to hold off the Buffalo Sabres in a 4-3 shootout loss Tuesday at Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders outshot the Sabres in each period and finished with a 44-34 edge overall. They held three different leads in the game, but saw Buffalo respond each time.
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
The Islanders continue their four-game homestand tonight vs. This is the first of two meetings between the teams; they will also meet in early March in Edmonton. The Isles are 8-3-0 in their last 11 games against Edmonton and are 6-0-0 in that span at the Coliseum.
TEAM NOTES:
Streaking: After being held pointless in the season opener, John Tavares has a point in five straight games (3g/4a).
Home Point Streak: Going back to last season, the Islanders are 6-0-3 in their last nine regular season games at the Coliseum; this matches their longest point streak on home ice since the 1989-90 season.
