Islanders v. Sabres Notes 10/15/13

Here are some notes for our New York Islanders (2-2-1) fans as the guys are getting ready to host the Buffalo Sabres (0-6-1) in NHL action on Tuesday night at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

RECENT GAMES
10/12/13: NYI 2 at NSH 3
Frans Nielsen and John Tavares scored consecutive goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead, but the New York Islanders were unable to hang on, losing 3-2 to the Nashville Predators Saturday at Bridgestone Arena. Evgeni Nabokov made his fourth start in goal, stopping 28-of-31 shots, as the Islanders were outshot 31-16.
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
The Islanders open a four-game homestand tonight against Buffalo. This is the first of three meetings this season between the teams. The Isles went 1-1-1 against Buffalo last season and are 5-1-2 in their last eight home games against the Sabres.

One-Goal Games: Four of the Islanders’ five games this season have been decided by one goal (1-2-1). Dating back to last season, eight of their last nine regular season games have been decided by one goal (2-3-3), including five in shootouts (2-0-3).
200th Game: Jack Capuano coached his 200th NHL game Saturday in Nashville. The Islanders are 86-85-29 under Capuano. He is second on the Islanders all-time list in both games coached (200) and wins (86), behind Al Arbour (1,500 coached, 740 wins).
