Quotes:

Liberty Head Coach Bill Laimbeer

On team’s overall performance :

“We have an issue where we just have our quarters where we blank out. We don’t do anything appropriately, we don’t execute in offense and we turn the ball over.  Then we get frustrated and it affects our defense. It’s the same thing that happens to us over and over again. “

On Cappie’s switch to point guard:

“It’s a work in process there’s no question about that. I’m putting her in a position right now where her potential for success is very limited because we don’t have any shooters. She’s the only shooter I got and I’ve been trying to get her into stuff and have her run the lead guard for us. No question that’s hurting us at the moment and I feel bad. We just couldn’t score.”

On scoring:

“If you can’t score, you can’t win. I knew our scoring was going to be difficult at the start of the season but still we should be better offensively than we are right now. The season never stops and professional basketball keeps going. There’s no time to hang our heads so we’ll have a talk tomorrow and take it from there.”

Liberty Guard Cappie Pondexter

On the rest of the season:

“I am not going to let the season go by without something special happening. My goal, especially winding down to the second half of the season is to get us going to the playoffs.”

On the switch to point guard:

“I take it as a challenge to be better at it. I am sure we will make some adjustments. Not having that go-to player on the wing is definitely difficult for us right now. You can tell we are searching for it. We will figure it out.”

On the long road trip ahead:

“ We have another long road trip. It’s a gut check. It is a matter of what are we fighting for collectively, what do we want collectively, where are we trying to go collectively, especially ending this first half. I would definitely like to close the first half of the season with a great run, to go 3-0. “

New York is back in action on Saturday, July 20 against the Chicago Sky at 8 p.m. It is the first of four-straight road games for the ladies.
