Liberty Guard Cappie Pondexter Voted Starter for 2013 All-Star Game

New York Liberty guard Cappie Pondexter was voted a starter for the 2013 Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star game, the league announced on Thursday. The game will be played at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on Saturday, July 27.

Pondexter led all Eastern Conference guards with 18,265 votes, en route to earning her fifth All-Star selection (’06,’07,’09,’11) and second career start.

Cappie leads the Liberty in scoring with 17.9 points-per-game, which ranks sixth in the WNBA. She is also averaging 4.8 rebounds and a team-best 3.6 assists-per-game. Pondexter has scored double figures in 13 games this season, including five 20-point outings.

The 2013 Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game, hosted by the Connecticut Sun, will broadcast live on ABC at 3:30 p.m.

The 12 WNBA head coaches will select the reserves by voting for six players within their own conference, including two guards and four frontcourt players. Coaches are not permitted to vote for players on their own team. The league will announce the reserves during a nationally televised game between the Liberty and the Fever on ESPN2, Tuesday, July 25 at 7 p.m. ET.
