Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game One Notes: Islanders vs. Penguins 5/1

Here are some notes for those fans getting ready to watch the New York Islanders take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game One of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

The Islanders will play their first Stanley Cup Playoff game since 2007 tonight in Pittsburgh. New York went 1-4-1 against the Penguins this season, but the teams have not faced-off since March.

Sixteen Islanders from the 27-man roster have yet to make their playoff debuts; Josh Bailey, Casey Cizikas, Joe Finley, Travis Hamonic, Thomas Hickey, Jesse Joensuu, Anders Lee, Matt Martin, Andrew MacDonald, Colin McDonald, Matt Moulson, Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo, Kevin Poulin, John Tavares and David Ullstrom.

Regular Season Notes:

Among the Best:

John Tavares finished third in the NHL scoring race with 28 goals, including a league-high 19 even-strength goals.

Manning the Net:

Evgeni Nabokov played 41-of-47 games this season. He finished one victory shy of the league lead with 23 wins. With 335 career wins, Nabokov ranks third among active goalies and 18th on the all-time wins list.

Bringing the Physical Part of the Game:

Matt Martin led the NHL with 234 hits. In 2011-12, Martin led the NHL with 374 hits, making the highest total recorded since hits became an official stat in ’05-’06.

The Islanders and Penguins game is set to air on the MSG Plus and NBC Sports Channels with face-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
