Islanders vs. Bruins 2/26/13

Here are some notes for those New York Islanders fans (8-10-1) take on the Boston Bruins (11-2-2) in NHL action at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Islanders play the second of a seven-game home stand tonight. This is the second of three meetings this season between these two teams, with the Bruins holding a 1-0 edge with a 4-2 victory over the Isles on 1/25.

Isles Recap:

The Isles led early, but fell late in a 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday at Nassau Coliseum. The loss spoiled the debut of keeper Kevin Poulin, who made 24 saves on 27 shots.

Tavares still Terrific:

With his 13th goal of the season on Sunday against Carolina, John Tavares was able to keep pace with Steven Stamkos for the NHL lead in goals. Only Stamkos (29) and Sidney Crosby (28) have more points than Tavares (25).

Top Combo:

John Tavares and Matt Moulson have combined for 23 goals, the most of any NHL teammates. Moulson and Tavares have combined for 48 points this season, which ranks third among NHL teammates; Stamkos and Martin St. Louis have combined for 53 points, while Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have combined for 49.

Moulson has had 10 goals this season, with Tavares earning an assists on seven of them. Tavares has now been on-ice for 39 consecutive Moulson goals, earning assists on 25 of them, dating back to a Moulson goal on November 26, 2011 against New Jersey.

Isles on fire:

Brad Boyes (0g/3a), Matt Moulson (3g/3a) and John Tavares (2g/3a) each carry three-game point streaks into tonight’s game. Boyes’ three-game assists streak matches an Islanders’ season-high.

The Islanders and Bruins game is set to air on the NBC Sports Network, with face-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
