Here are some notes for those fans who are watching the New York Islanders (4-6-1) who are playing host to the Carolina Hurricanes (5-4-1) in NHL action at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Islanders are playing the sixth game in a stretch of nine-straight in the NY/NJ area (Jan. 31- Feb. 18). The Islanders and Hurricanes meet for the first of three times this season tonight. New York was able to sweep all four games against Carolina last season, as John Tavares stormed over the Hurricanes with his 12 points (6g/6a), including three game-winning goals.
New York ranks third in the East (fifth overall ) on the penalty kill at 88.6 % (31/35). Thus far Tavares has been on the ice for 64 consecutive Matt Moulson goals, earning assists on 42 of them, this streak dates back to November 17, 2010 against Tampa Bay.
Tavares ranks second among NHL forwards with 21:57 of ice time per-game. The forward was able to beat Sabres goalie Ryan Miller twice in the Islanders tough 3-2 loss to Buffalo on Saturday.

Josh Bailey made his season debut with the Isles on Saturday, playing 12:48 and recording a career-high seven shots on goal. Lubomir Visnovsky made his Islanders debut on Saturday, playing 20:34 with a plus-2 rating.
