Rangers vs. Lightning 2/10/13

Here are some notes for those fans watching the New York Rangers (5-5-0) play host to the Tampa Bay Lighting (6-4-0) in NHL action at Madison Square Garden.

New York currently rank fourth in the Atlantic Division standings and 12th in the Eastern Conference. The Blueshirts currently have a 4-2-0 record in their last six games, while holding a 4-1-0 mark in their last five at The Garden.

This is the second of three meetings between the Rangers and Bolts this season, while this being the first of two meetings at MSG. New York currently holds one victory over Tampa Bay with a 3-2 victory on Feb. 2. Leading the way in that victory were Carl Hagelin, Rick Nash and Derek Stephan who recorded goals in the contest.

Seven of the last eight meetings between the Blueshirts and Bolts have been decided by one goal, including five that required extra time and two that went into the shootout frame.

New York has been able to record points in 14 of their last 17 games against Tampa Bay (10-3-4 over the span), this dates back to a 2-1 victory over the Bolts on October 4, 2008.

Henrik Lundqvist has started 27 of the Rangers’ last 29 contests against the Lighting, holding a 14-7-6 with a 2.16 GAA, .923 save percentage and two shutouts over the span.

The Rangers are tied for ninth in the NHL with a 4-2-0 (eight points) record at home; Tampa Bay is tied for 23rd in the NHL with a 1-3-0 (2 points) mark on the road.

Thus far the Blueshirts top three forwards Marian Gaborik, Rick Nash and Brad Richards have 10 of the last 24 goals, and 25 points.

Injuries:

Dan Girardi has missed two games with an injury, which he suffered on February 2nd

Michael Sauer has missed 10 games due to a concussion, suffered on December 5, 2011

The Rangers have lost 21 total man-games due to injuries or illness this season.

New York and Tampa Bay will play tonight on the MSG network, with face-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
