The New York Islanders continued to make moves. On Thursday the franchise claimed Keith Aucoin, while on Friday Brian Strait as both players were picked-up from the waivers.
Aucoin, 34, has appeared in 102 NHL games, split between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Washington Capitals. The Waltham, MA native has a NHL career of 11 goals and 26 assists (37 points) with a plus-7 rating.
Strait, meanwhile, has appeared in 220 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The defenseman also appeared in 12 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, collecting one assist and four penalty minutes.
New York will open the season against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This is the first of five meetings between the teams this season. The Islanders will be led on the ice offensively by John Tavares and new addition Brad Boyes who is a former 40-goal scorer.
Aucoin will look to make an impact for the Islanders on the blueline, along with newly acquired Joe Finley and Thomas Hickey.
Fans watching the home opener can do so on the MSG-Plus or MSG-Plus 2 channel, and face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
