With the end of the 2012 Major League Baseball season crowning a new champion; now is the time for the rumor mills for all the teams to begin.
Eyebrows are being raised in the land of Blue and Orange, as it has been reported that the New York Mets are looking into Melky Cabrera and Miguel Olivo to the roster. Thus far the members of the Citi Field faithful are unhappy with the idea of Cabrera returning to New York, especially since the outfielder was suspended 50 games for a PED violation.
Yes, the Mets are in need of an outfielder, but there has to be some other options available to the team. Olivo, meanwhile, had a .222 batting average in 87 games for the Mariners in 2012. If New York decides to pick-up Olivo; that means the tenure of one Kelly Shoppach in Queens is over.
It’d be a shame for the Mets to just give up on Shoppach, who has been known to help develop the young stud pitchers. With Matt Harvey already on the big league club, and the soon to come Zack Wheeler it’d be great to have someone who has the experience in helping to develop these young stars.
For the two cornerstones of the team, David Wright and R.A. Dickey the franchise has three days (for Wright) and five (for Dickey) to pick-up the All-Stars respective options. There has been no word yet on the progress with these two players.
With the countdown to pitchers and catchers beginning last night, you know Mets fans are all anxious to see what moves will be made to finally bring a Fall Classic trophy home to Queens.
