Playing on the same line with fellow countrymen New York Rangers winger Marian Gaborik soared to a hat trick plus an assist, to help lead the Team Chara 12-9 victory over Team Alfredsson in the 2012 NHL All-Star Game.
Thanks to his four point performance, Gaborik was named the MVP of the All-Stars, thanks to some help from playing on the same line as Pavel Datsyuk and Marian Hossa, as the familiarity from playing at the international level propelled Gabby to a different playing level.
Gaborik is already playing at an MVP-type level for the Blueshirts, as the sniper has 25 goals, 14 assists in recording 39 points at the end of the first half for the New York Rangers.
Teammates Carl Hagelin, Dan Girardi and Henrik Lundqvist also impressed during the two day event, though Lundqvist probably wishes he had drafted the winger before the weekend even started. Gaborik made ‘Hank’ pay twice for not adding him to the Team Alfredsson side, on some beautiful passing from the Team Chara end of the ice.
Hagelin became the first Rangers in 19 years to win the fastest skater competition, while both Girardi and Lundqvist both were able to shine during various parts of the game.
The New York Rangers will continue their playoff push on Tuesday, when they take on Eastern Conference-rival the New Jersey Devils. The Blueshirts/Devils game is slated to air on the MSG 2 network with face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
