Not so ‘Chipper’ loss for Mets

Larry ‘Chipper’ Jones has been known as a ‘Mets-killer’-so much so that he even named one of his sons ‘Shea’ thanks to his previous conquest in the old Stadium. There was no surprise that Jones worked his magic again, with a RBI single to lead the Atlanta Braves (record) to a 1-0 victory over New York.

Atlanta started the day with a 3 ½ game lead over St. Louis for a wild card lead, held their tight reigns with the lead with this victory tonight. Meanwhile the Mets offense was stymied by Braves starter Tim Hudson who struck out 10 batters.

Mets starter R.A. Dickey (8-13) continues his fine outings, striking out four batters in 7 2/3 innings. The New York offense finished the day with four hits, as Ruben Tejada tallied two-of-the four. Lucas Duda and Josh Thole tallied the other two.

This series will conclude with rookie-sensation Dillon Gee (12-6) takes on Brandon Beachy (7-2, 3.43 ERA). The first pitch is slated for 1:35 p.m.
