The New York Islanders are going to be celebrating 40-years of commitment, excellence and pride on Long Island in the up-and-coming NHL season. The team announced a campaign to celebrate their commitment to their fans and the Long Island community.
One of the many special events the Isles are planning this season will be ‘Decade Nights’ include inductions into the Islanders Hall of Fame.
“The Long Island community has been very supportive of their team, and we are honored to bring back many of the Islanders greats spanning the past four decades,” Islanders Sr. Vice President Michael Picker said. “With the current core of talent that is blossoming before our eyes, we are confident that this franchise is destined for a successful season both on, and off the ice.”
The team is planning to start the 40-Year Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, October 8th, which is Opening Night for the Isles. New York is going to be taking on the Florida Panthers, with face-off slated for 8:00 p.m.
During the course of the night, the Islanders will span four decades of hockey with various in-game activities and video tributes. The team is also planning on having members of the inaugural Season Ticket-Holder family participating in pre-game festivities.
The Islanders are also planning on honoring one of their legendary-players throughout the year, with an induction into the Islanders Hall of Fame. Each of the players will have their names placed on the Islanders Hall of Fame banner.
The ‘Decade Night’ Hall of Fame ceremony will also include a brass plaque, depicting each player, as well as a list of accomplishments and contributions-that will be proudly on display in the team’s dressing hallway.

Islanders fans should keep Saturday, October 29th marked on their schedules, as the team will not only take on the San Jose Sharks-but will also have members of the team’s alumni in attendance that night.
The fan base can also keep an eye out for a very special 40-Year Anniversary patch on the left shoulder on the team’s jerseys. This logo will also be seen throughout the season on center ice during all home games at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The 2011-12 seasons will also feature special promotions, merchandising, giveaways as well as other great memorable moments for fans to cherish this season.
