One-run Yankees loss is for the ‘Birds’

In the fourth game in four days between the New York Yankees (87-55) and Baltimore Orioles (57-85) the Bombers fell just short in a 5-4 loss in Camden Yards.

Starter Ivan Nova was poised to tie a Yankees single-season rookie record with his 12th straight victory (over last 13 starts) before Baltimore mounted their comeback in the eighth inning. With the loss, Nova’s run of eight consecutive victorious stints on the hill came to an end today.

Eric Chavez and Derek Jeter each had two RBI’s for the Yankees, whose lead in the American League East was whittled down to two games, pending the Boston/Toronto game in Toronto on Thursday night.

The Bombers are going to be in for a long week of road baseball, as the Yankees are now heading out to California for a three-game set with the Angels before heading to Seattle for another three against the Mariners.

Starting in Game one for the Yankees is Bartolo Colon (8-9, 3.72 ERA) the righty is slated to take on Angels-ace Jered Weaver (16-7, 2.49 ERA) with the first pitch slated for 10:05 p.m.
