NWSL Rivalry Brewing between Gotham and Boston

Even though the Boston Legacy are the new kids on the block, the intensity and rivalry between them and Gotham FC is already starting to be one that fans are getting into and that atmosphere was seen in the second match between these two franchises.

In what was a semi magical day for the team as the rain clouds turned into beautiful weather the Gotham FC match versus the Legacy featured a bit of everything including appearances by NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and USWNT Head Coach Emma Hayes as the club was celebrating Club and Country Day.

Fans are encouraged to enjoy the following video from a media press conference held with Coach Hayes:

Mayor Mamdani getting more people into the sport of women’s soccer as he was instrumental in getting 1,000 of people to the match with $5 ticket prices, followed up and made an appearance at the match to show the working relationship he and the team have with each other.

That only added to the excitement that was on the field as the ladies put on one heck of a match for both the Mayor and the USWNT Head Coach.

Even though the match concluded with a 1-1 tie there were many things that the club can be very proud of including the fact with how aggressive they were in being able to create the chances for themselves.

Having one of the finer performances thus far was Jaelin Howell, as she was a part of creating the first goal of the match and helped to create many other chances as well. Howell was a huge part of the team’s midfield play and had all the fans in attendance singing her praises after the conclusion of the action.

One of the biggest trends in the day was the fact that the referees played a huge part in the day, as there were very strong feelings from those at Sports Illustrated Stadium with some of the play.

Even though the refs played a part the team got to see stellar performances s well from Jaedyn Shaw, Jordynn Dudley, Esther Gonzalez and Lilly Reale.

Fans are also encouraged to check out these thoughts from midfielder Sarah Schupansky and forward Midge Purce from after the tie….video is compliments of Gotham FC:

Got to tip the cap to Boston though as the expansion team is fitting right in with the rest of the franchises, as they showed grit and were able to score a goal from Alba Caño in the 40th minute.

The ladies have an away fixture in Seattle before starting CONCACAF action on May 20.

The match versus Seattle to be played on May 15 is going to be an intruging one but the ladies have done well against the Reign as they have won the last two of three matches.
