Yankee Stadium Thriller for New York City FC against Columbus

As New York City FC Celebrated Mother’s Day the guys celebrated in the best way possible with three points at Yankee Stadium with a 3-0 victory against Columbus.

The Boys in Blue did brilliantly on the defensive side of the ball, while putting on a display of brilliant passing and scoring as three goals by Hannes Wolf led the way.

For those that were observing the match it was indeed the brilliant passing that was on display as the guys were able to work the angles in the Bronx perfectly to be able to get the scoring going in front of the 17, 770 fans.

With the victory in the day New York City FC is now in seventh place in the MLS Standings with a 3-3-2 record at home.

For Wolf, he has always brought the excitement to the match days and got his first ever hat-trick for the club. Thus far Hannes has a total of six goal contributions this season (5 G, 1A).

Some fun facts on Hannes from the New York City FC PR department include the fact that he is now ranked second on the team in goals cored along with scoring four goals at home this season.

Fans also got to see positive play from Nicolás Fernández Mercau and Nico Cavallo along with Matt Freese putting on an incredible athletic display at the Goalkeeper position.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming along there is a very good chance that fans of New York City FC are going to be seeing Matt as the goalkeeper for the USMNT because of his play in the MLS and because of how he was able to perform with the US team during the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup as well.

Also possibly playing in the Tournament is Aiden O’Neill and Kai Trewin as they are projected to be on Australia’s roster.

Before the rosters for the FIFA Tournament get unveiled though the Boys in Blue got some business to handel in the MLS as they have road matches against Charlotte, the Red Bulls and the US Open Cup match against Columbus on the docket.

The first match they are going to prepare for is Charlotte as the guys are looking to avenge the 2-1 loss that happened at Citi Field.

It is going to be a great road test for the guys before they head to New Jersey to take on the rivals the Red Bulls, as the Hudson River Derby looks to be an exciting one as the Red Bulls are starting to heat up as well.

For now though the main focus is Charlotte and playing to three points on the road there.
