Not so Sleepless Performance for Spirit in Victory against Seattle

In a match that was anything but sleepless against Seattle the Washington Spirit won a thrilling 3-2 victory at Audi Field in NWSL Action on Friday.

In front of a record crowd of 11,551 people and doggies in attendance, those that were in the Washington D.C. area got to see the dynamic duo of Croix Bethune and Ouleye Sarr amongst others combining for goals in the team’s victory

Interim Head Coach Adrián González touting the fact that the team is starting to gel and play more of a team orientated style of soccer is seeing his team sit in third place in the NWSL standings with 8-3-0 record.

There were many highlights in the team’s victory including a milestone moment from Goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury making an acrobatic save for the 450th in her incredible career during the 29th minute.

Kingsbury became the seventh player in NWSL history to reach the milestone.

Another highlight came compliments of the penalty kick goal by Andi Sullivan in the 39′. Sullivan talking about those moments with members of the Washington D.C. media after the match, spoke about how she and the rest of the squad practiced for that moment and well the reps payed off. The Penalty for the Spirit was the team’s third of the year, along with Sullivan having two PKs.

Special Note for the Spirit fans the franchise have several players getting the call to the U.S. Women’s Soccer team and Sullivan got to join the part as the National Team made the call for Andi as well after her performance against Seattle.

The Spirit also saw goal by Sarr, which is the sixth of the season along with the third straight match she was able to score in a match. The six goals scored thus far for Ouleye puts her third in the NWSL Golden Boot race behind MVP candidates Sophia Smith (POR) and Barbra Banda (ORL).

Up next for the franchise is going to be a road trip to America First Field in Sandy, UT as the ladies go up against the Utah Royals on Saturday, June 8 with the match scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the action airing on the ION Network.
