New York Red Bulls Eliminated in MLS Cup Playoffs but Face Bright Future

Building upon an iconic Legacy that the franchise built in 1994 and starting off as the MetroStars and evolving into the team that is seen today at Red Bull Arena.

Featuring a history off winning three regular season Supporter’s Shield Titles in 2013, 2015, and 2018, the 2023 edition of the New York Red Bulls is going to be one of the more memorable ones in franchise history.

A team that went from the bottom of the MLS Table and elevating themselves to the First Round of the 2023 MLS Cup Playoff Bracket, there were a ton of hurdles the 2023 squad overcame. What is even more exciting for fans and followers of the squad is the untapped potential of the squad heading into 2024 and beyond.

Between the hiring of Head Coach Troy Lesesne and the emergence of players such as John Tolkin and Omir Fernandez the sky is the limit for the New York Red Bulls squad.

Especially after the team’s performance in the 2023 MLS Cup, to go toe-to-toe with FC Cincinnati, the team that won the Supporters Shield and the favorite to win the 2023 MLS Cup. The franchise as a ton to be proud of.

Playing in front of a packed house at Red Bull Arena the Second Match of the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs went the way that the Red Bulls hoped it would, with a team being aggressive, passing the ball to each other and gaining the first goal of the match by Tom Barlow at the 45 minutes.

There was also an incredible performance by Red Bulls Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel and some other impressive highlights as well.

FC Cincinnati would not be denied their opportunity to go onto the next round though, as a goal in the 75th minute by Aron Boupendza tied up the match.

With plenty of great action displayed by both squads eventually the match went into penalty kicks and that is when FC Cincinnati punched their ticket to the Semis on the goal by Júnior Moreno that allows for the current Supporter Shield Winners to advance for the next round and await the winner of the Philadelphia/New England MLS Cup matchup.

For the Red Bulls it is time to start planning and making the moves for the team to fulfill their potential for the 2024 season and beyond. There are going to be so many questions for the franchise to answer, all that is known currently is the amount of pride that surrounds the team after the 2023 year, the lessons learned and the legacy that the team is building upon.
