Liberty keep Rocking Barclays Center with 89-73 victory over the Sky

Friday night at the Barclays center another packed house for the seventh annual Unity Game celebrating 50 years of Women in Hip Hop in collaboration with Warner Music Group. Halftime and Post Game performance by MC Lyte and Rhapsody during the New York Liberty versus the Chicago Sky game. In terms of the overall action the Liberty defeated the Sky in their second matchup up 89-73. 

New York City is the Mecca of hip hop. MC Lyte Hip Hop Pioneer, DJ, entrepreneur releasing her first album in the late 1980’s. She was the first female rapper to release a full studio album. Lyte is also involved with numerous charities and foundations.

Lyte’s Non-Profit Company Hip Hop Sisters helps to promotes positive images of men and women of ethnic diversity, bringing leaders together from the world of Hip Hop, the entertainment industry, and the corporate world. 

Fans were delighted with the activations by Liberty as a company by the name of Unity was at the Barclays Center in addition to Brooklyn-based rapper BreezyLyn. Unity is a platform ignites activism, educates fans, unites the local community, empowers players, and amplifies marginalized voices through key partnerships, social media activation, and events.

In terms of the history between the Liberty and the Sky, Chicago won the first game of the three series matchup with Liberty and the ladies didn’t take it lightly losing at home. Liberty went on a 17-5 run during the first quarter.  Marine Johannes and Kayla Thornton proved why the reserves are important in the game. Johannes contributed six points, while Thronton scored seven.

After weeks of being out of the game Stephanie Dolson is finally back on the court. The return came during Friday night’s game as Coach Sandy Brondello decided to play her for ten minutes. It’s fair to say that Dolson was extremely missed of the court and a great access when it comes to releasing some of the pressure from Jonquel Jones.

Jones having a milestone moment recorded her 3000-career point during the fourth quarter of the game ending with 18 points, seven rebounds shooting from the deep at 66.7% ( 2-3).

Courtney Vandersloot has made it on the all-time assist list taking the second spot in the WNBA.  The Liberty has landed a spot in the 2023 WNBA playoffs for the third consecutive season with a franchise best start of 22-8.

Next up the New York Liberty take on the Indiana Fever in Indiana on Sunday, August 13 at 3PM with the action airing on the ESPN network.
